I don't see why you couldn't. Although a 3" piranha in a 125gal might be lost for a while.probably keep him in there for a year or two, if he gets huge you might have to upgrade to a lil wider tank.

ok so he could last for how long??? like till 10 inches mybe 12 then needs like a 180??

A 180 should be plenty big enough for most of a piraya's life, but they're like any other Pygo with a preference to be in a group of it's own kind. Of course that's putting you in the 400g+ range!
